List of 5 Best Vintage Shoot Spots in Toronto

Kensington Market

Kensington is a unique location with items you will not find anywhere else. Kensington has been around since the 1990s, the market has a variety of vintage stores and many delicious places to eat as well and don’t forget about the street entertainers, but since the stores in this neighbourhood are not exactly chain stores the prices of items can be a little expensive but I do still think the prices of the items would be worth it considering you most likely will not find it anywhere else. The area of Kensington gives off a vintage vibe. Personally, Kensington is a personal favourite because of all of the colour and art all throughout the neighbourhood. Not only are the streets of Kensington are super cool and have a vintage vibe, just wait until you get into the stores that they have lined up. A personal favourite store of mine in the neighbourhood has to be this store that sells lace and corsets which plays into my love for the Victorian aesthetic, but if that is not your style there are definitely other stores that will suit your taste for example if you like more of a retro vintage store they have that as well as many other stores. Overall Kensington Market is an amazing place to explore cool vintage pieces.

The Distillery District

The Distillery District to me gives off the 90s to 2000s Christmas movie in the winter. The architecture of the Distillery District really screams vintage, because of the types of build and materials used to build the buildings like cobblestone ground, you don’t see that as often anymore, also the choice of decoration, for example, the style of the lamp post and the clock in the picture you don’t see those specific styles in the modern era anymore. Personally, I only come down to the Distillery District in the winter, because that is when I think it is the prettiest and worth my time to check out, but obviously, that is my own preference, it is beautiful in the spring as well but it is not my favourite. The reason I personally only come down in the winter is that I like walking around The Distillery District like I just came out of an early 2000s Christmas movie shopping for Christmas presents, hey that could be the theme for your next photoshoot if you ever need ideas!

Spadina Museum

The Spadina Museum is a historic house. The Spadina Museum has been open since 1984, The museum is open for everyone to enjoy and explore, but this house is also open for wedding shoots as well if you want a vintage feel for your wedding photos. The aesthetics of the house gives off a bit of a Victorian-era vibe. The house is decorated with lavish furniture which makes the whole house look very elegant the designer colour choice was spot on you can really feel the houses vibe of a Victorian house as well as the choice of furniture, without those elements in play I feel the house would feel just like any other house in the 21st century. The outside of the house is quite beautiful as well with a clean white paint base and a greenish-blue accent. The Spadina Museum is the perfect spot to take vintage Victorian-era photoshoots, I can just imagine everyone all dressed up in their dresses and suits ready for a Victorian-era photoshoot. I personally have never been to the Spadina Museum, but I would definitely love to check it out someday and maybe have a little photo shoot of my own.

Grasshopper Records

If you are a photographer and a person who is into music and love the vintage vibe, then Grasshopper Records is a place to check out for a vintage photoshoot. Grasshopper Records is a super cool record and music store. Grasshopper Records gives off a lot of vintage vibes considering it is a record store and not as many people purchase records these days. Grasshopper Records is located near Trinity Bellwood’s park another super cool place to have a photoshoot. Something that is awesome about Grasshopper Records is that the employees who work there are super chill and relaxed and while you are there feel free to browse through their record collection you will probably find something you like in the assortment, another cool little bonus is that if you yourself are already a record player expert you can also sell your records if you no longer want them instead of throwing them out. Personally, I have never been to Grasshopper Records, but every person I know loves this place who has visited, one of my friends even has a super cool Instagram post of the record store.

The Docks (Drive-in Theatre)

The Docks (Drive-in Theatre) is… well a drive-in theatre obviously and is the perfect place to check out if you want to recreate the cliché “ 1990s to early 2000s high school date spot or hang out”. The Docks (Drive-in Theatre) is a super cool place to take pictures, the vibe and the scenery when all the cars and people pull up is just amazing. The drive-in theatre is super spacious, there are so many spots to choose from, but I definitely recommend the spot around the middle-back row, because you just get the perfect view of the entire screen without any neck strain. Another cool thing about The Docks (drive-in theatre) is that it is located outside, so you can have more options on how you want to do your photoshoot, for example now you can capture the beautiful sunset during the movie or you can capture all the stars in the sky as a background. At The Docks (Drive-in Theatre) you can enjoy a movie during your photoshoot.

Conclusion

In conclusion, If you are a Toronto Photographer and looking for vintage spots for maybe a vintage themed photoshoot you are in luck and don’t have to travel far because Toronto has a variety of vintage shoot spots all over the city, but the ones I have listed here today are just some of the best and highly recommended shoot spots.
